Crime in Alameda was down overall in 2012, according to summary statistics from the Alameda Police Department.
Last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released it’s preliminary report on crime statistics for 2012. However, the data tables provided include detail city data only for cities with populations of 100,000 people or more. Alameda, with a population of roughly 75,000 people, is not included in the tables, although the Alameda Police Department provides the FBI with the same data reported here.
In 2012, the Alameda Police Department received 2,069 reports of so-called “Part 1” serious crimes, a category that includes murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, auto theft and arson. Alameda police received one report of murder or manslaughter in 2012, compared to 1 in 2011, and nine reports of rape, compared to 15 in 2011.
There were 2,513 reports of “Part 2” crimes, such as simple assault, forgery, vandalism, drug offenses and other such crimes in 2012.
The overall clearance rate for Part 1 crimes in 2012 was 15 percent, with Alameda police reporting that they solved the murder and all nine rapes. Clearance for Part 2 crimes was 60 percent overall, with vandalism and forgery/counterfeit crimes ranking lowest.
Reports of liquor law violations in 2012 jumped dramatically, due to funding that the Alameda Police Department received specifically for enforcement of related laws.
