Alameda Unified School Superintendent Kirsten Vital fell short of her performance goals this year. (Action Alameda News)
Under a 2011 contract, Ms. Vital’s total compensation package exceeds $200,000 per year, and includes a $15,000 performance bonus.
The staff report to the trustees notes that Vital did not achieve goals to improve attendance rates and increase API scores district-wide; the report blames Washington School, now Maya Lin School, for bringing down the district-wide API numbers and causing Vital to miss the goal.
Vital did achieve a third goal, to increase the total percentage of students enrolled in at least one advanced placement course by 2% as measured in September of 2012 enrollment.
District staff are therefore recommending that Vital be awarded one-third of her annual performance bonus, or $5,000.
