Alameda City Council is expected to give the go-ahead to renew for another five years a license to Antiques by the Bay for its monthly antique fair at Alameda Point.

According to a City of Alameda staff report, over the past three months, the lease of space at the Northwest corner of Alameda has generated an average monthly payment of nearly $47,000.

The fair started in 1998, on the airfield tarmac just north of the former Seaplane Lagoon.

The area currently used for the fair conflicts with land expected to be developed by the Veterans Administration but city staffers expect the event could be relocated to another, smaller, location in the event that development starts within the next five years.

The item comes before City Council next Tuesday.
