City of Alameda contingency plans for the next round of BART wars rely heavily on expanded ferry service.

A announcement from the City of Alameda today reveals plans to leverage to the two ferry terminals at either end of the city in case BART unions walk off the job late in the evening on August 4th, as they did at the end of June.

Alameda’s plans include:

  • Expanded parking near the Main Street ferry terminal.
  • A Main Street ferry shuttle that will loop the west end of town.
  • Free valet bicycle parking at the Main Street ferry terminal.
  • Satellite parking at the golf course, with shuttle service to Harbor Bay ferry terminal.
  • A Harbor Bay ferry shuttle that will loop Bay Farm Island.
  • Alameda Police will relax parking enforcement near both ferry terminals, except for flagrant violations such as the blocking of driveways, sidewalks, handicap parking, or fire hydrants.

The City of Alameda will provide updates on its website.
