Alameda High School Building Discussion on AUSD Agenda Tonight

The question of what to do with the Alameda High School building is on the school board agenda again tonight.

The question of what to do with the Alameda High School building is on the school board agenda again tonight.

Tonight the Alameda Unified School District Board (AUSD) of Trustees will entertain an information item on facility planning, including the question of what to do with the Alameda High School building.

On June 11th, AUSD staff advised the board that if the district wishes to purchase the rented facility the administration offices occupy at 2060 Challenger Drive, the next deadline for doing is September 30th of this year.

To do so, the district must file paperwork with the county board of education 30 days prior, so the nearer term deadline is fast approaching at the end of this month.

At that same meeting, staff provided information on long-term facilities planning options, that included the possibility of asking voters to approve a bond some time in the next two years, and/or renew a local parcel tax in 2017.

The questions of bond or parcel tax funding are irrevocably intertwined with the question of moving district offices back into the high school building, or remaining at 2060 Challenger Drive, and the purchase option.

Tonight’s meeting, to be held in Council Chambers at Alameda City Hall, starts with a closed session at 5:00 p.m.
