West-end Schools Locked Down as Police Investigate Shooting Report

Update: 9/12/13 09:00 a.m. – According to Alameda police logs, a male suspect was arrested yesterday for falsely reporting that he was shot at. After he made the initial report, he apparently recanted, saying he lied because he feared his probation would be violated.

Ruby Bridges School and Island High School were on lockdown for around 30 minutes this morning, beginning at roughly 8:30 a.m., as Alameda police investigated a single report of shots fired in the vicinity of Island High School.

Initial reports from the Alameda Police Department indicated that the report had not been corroborated from other sources, but the schools were locked down as a precautionary measure.

There were no reports of any injuries.

As of 9:15 a.m., police have been unable to confirm or refute that shots were indeed fired, and they continue to investigate.
