The Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees will consider a 1-year contract extension for Superintendent Kirsten Vital next week, one that would see her contract extended through June 30th of 2016.

The current contract, approved in August of 2011, runs through June 30th, 2015; Vital’s base salary is over $200,000 annually, and her contract as in effect today includes perks such as a mobile telephone stipend, full healthcare premiums paid for by the school district, and a clause that requires the district to pay her salary and health benefits for 18 months in the event that she is terminated without cause.

The current contract carries Vital through the November 2014 election, when two school board seats would be up for grabs, and the extension would have her contract terminate in the months leading up to the November 2016 election, when three seats would be elected.

The contract extension changes the language of the health care benefits clause to read, “The District shall provide the Superintendent with District-paid health and welfare benefits at the same contribution rate and level available to other District employees,” and suspends the current performance pay clause. It also extends Vital’s compensation for unused vacation days to 20.

The current contract, excluding page 6, which is missing from the school district’s file as provided on its website, and the extension resolution are provided below.
