The City of Alameda announced today that it has secured its first grant to fund the development of the Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, on the former Beltline Railway property.

In an announcement, the City of Alameda said that the Targeted Site Investigation grant of $60,000 from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control will be used for an environmental investigation, which is needed before the land can be opened for public use.

A second grant of $792,608 from the Alameda County Transportation Commission will be combined with $200,000 from Alameda Citywide Development fees to fund a short section a jogging trail, way-finding signs, trees, and a bio swale.
