Penalty if First Installment of Property Taxes Not Paid by Business Close on December 10th

The first installment of your property tax bill is late if paid after December 10th.

The first installment of your property tax bill is late if paid after December 10th.

Technically, the first installment of your Alameda County property tax bill was due last Friday. However, a penalty won’t be assessed unless you pay after close of business on Tuesday, December 10th.

County-wide, the 2013 to 2014 assessment roll was $215.3 billion, or a 5.17 percent increase ($10.6 billion) over last year’s assessment role. The growth in the assessment roll reflects a recovery in real estate prices.

The net local roll, after all exemptions, such as homeowners exemptions, have been applied, comes to $206 billion.

The roll for property in the city of Alameda rose 5.48 percent from $9.494 billion last year to $10.015 billion, an increase of $520 million.

Some 24,863 properties in Alameda were assessed.

Homeowners may see dramatic rises in their property tax bills as the housing market continues to recover, as Proposition 8 (1978) allows the assessed property value to rise in step with market increases, for properties that have enjoyed a temporary assessment reduction due to market declines.
