The East Bay Regional Parks District has been in a tussle with the City of Alameda and the Federal General Services Administration over plans to turn over land on McKay Avenue – next to the Crab Cove Visitor Center – to developers for housing. The Parks District had been counting on obtaining that land from the federal government to facilitate an expansion of the visitor center and crown beach.
The item on tonight’s agenda says that, “Annually, AUSD students visit the Crab Cove Visitor Center and Crown beach, as organized class field trips and also with their families. AUSD students and families would directly benefit from an expansion of the Crab Cove Visitor Center and protection of Crown beach.”
Spencer needs three votes at tonight’s meeting to bring a formal resolution of support before the AUSD board at a future date.
I hope she will get the votes tonight and I hope the city will come to its senses on this issue. It is proper and fitting that AUSD support this cause.
