School Board Confirms No Appraisal for Parcels to be Traded for Swimming Pool Fixes

The Alameda Unified School District has confirmed that they don’t know the value of land they were planning to give to the City of Alameda in return for swimming pool fixes.

A spokesperson for the Alameda Unified School District has confirmed that the district does not know the value of waterfront Tidelands Trust land it was planning to give to the City of Alameda to help pay for fixes to the swimming pools.

Earlier this month, the Board of Trustees for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) had an agenda item to consider a complicated deal that would have seen the City of Alameda front $1.9 million to fix the Encinal Swim Center, of which the Alameda Unified School district would pay back $1.15 million through a lease arrangement; the District was also to hand over two North Alameda Tidelands Trust parcels on the estuary waterfront at 1527 Buena Vista Avenue.

The agenda item was pulled before it could be considered.

However, Susan Davis, Senior Manager, Community Affairs has confirmed that the school district has no appraised value for the land it was going to hand over to the City of Alameda, assessor parcel numbers 72-380-19 and 72-380-20, telling Action Alameda News, “We have neither appraisals on that land nor tax records (the property is not subject to paying tax).”

It’s not clear if and when the deal may come back before the board.

This appears to be the heart of the “Alaska Packers” peninsula that Tim Lewis Communities is planning to develop and was rezoned by the City Council last year as multi family (while ignoring Measure A). It seems to me the School District should auction it off! Until recently it has been used as a container storage area.
