Alameda Point Final Environmental Impact Report Now Available

alameda-town-center-aug-2013On the day before Christmas, the City of Alameda announced that the final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for Alameda Point is now available.

The report is required under the California Environmental Quality Act, which requires local agencies to examine the environmental impacts of development proposals and identify mitigation measures for any adverse environmental effects.

The proposed development for Alameda Point, a former naval air station, calls for 1,425 new and rehabilitated residential housing units to support roughly 3,240 residents, and rehabilitation, reuse and new construction of roughly 5.5 million square feet of commercial and workplace buildings to support approximately 8,900 jobs.

Infrastructure like roads and utilities will also need to be replaced or upgraded, and open space, parks and trails would be created or rehabilitated.

The voluminous FEIR document is available in chapters on the City of Alameda website, and in hard copy for review at various locations around the city. The document includes public response comments to the Draft EIR document released in September of this year.

The City of Alameda Planning Board is expected to hold a final public hearing on the FEIR document on January 13th, 2014, and pass accompanying resolutions to send the document on to Alameda City Council for final approval, which may happen in early February.
