Rec and Park Fees to Go Up

Alameda Recreation and Park Fees are set to go up, if approved by City Council next week.

The city-wide fee schedule is reviewed annually, and the Recreation and Park Department has made recommendations to Alameda City Council to increase some fees and introduce new fees or new programs.

Under the recommendation, the fee to prep an athletic field for non-profits will rise from $25 per game to $40 per game. Field rental rates will remain unchanged.

The large group event fee for non-profits will change from $50 per hour to $150 per day, and food booths at events will now have to share 15 percent of gross revenue with city coffers, whereas before there was no such fee.

A new fee for setting-up the gym in advance of a tournament will be introduced, at $150 per set-up, but city staff note that tournament organizers can always do set-up themselves by renting the facility for an additional hour before the event begins.

One Alameda resident, Lucy Gigli, wrote to City Council in December to ask for a review of the fees for facility rentals, as “the fees have grown lately and become unaffordable for small groups and families hoping to have small events.”

City Council meets on Tuesday, January 21st, at 7:00 p.m. in council chambers at Alameda City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue.

Great, Ms Gigli asks for a review in Dec because fees are too much and so they increase them even more in Jan. Sad.
