Hail, Track, Pay, Taxi by Smartphone

Flywheel, a real-time mobile geolocation tech company, announced this week that taxi cabs serving Alameda, and neighboring cities, have been equipped with the company’s technology to allow riders to request a cab, track its location in real-time, and pay automatically via smartphone.

The company is expanding across California and into markets in the mid-west and Southeast, and is clearly targeting services such as Uber and Lyft.

“People in cities across the U.S. want safe, reliable and affordable for-hire transportation options they can access through their smartphones – without the typical surge pricing of our competitors,” said Steve Humphreys, CEO at Flywheel.

Additionally, Flywheel works to partner with taxi cab operators, rather than compete with them.

The company says that every taxi cab operator it works with has wheelchair-accessible cabs and vans, supports service dogs, carries always-on insurance, and features legally licensed drivers that have passed background checks.
