Metropolitan Transportation Commission Awards City Grants for Alameda Point

The City of Alameda announced this week that it has secured two Metropolitan Transportation Commission grants, totaling $400,000, for planning new development for Alameda Point.

One grant of $150,000 will be used to develop a transportation demand management plan for Alameda Point, slated for commercial and residential redevelopment.

A second grant of $250,000 will be used to develop a detailed plan for a new, so-called, Main Street, neighborhood to be developed on the former Naval Air Station Alameda in the area immediately northwest of the intersection of Main Street and Atlantic Avenue.

The planning efforts are intended to mitigate the effects of increased development on the west-end of the island, which is expected to increase vehicle traffic through the Webster and Posey tubes.

Well that’s good news. I sincerely hope they come up with a good, real, doable plan.
