A magnitude 6.1 earthquake, centered about 4 miles northwest of American Canyon, California, which is roughly 40 miles north of Alameda, rattled residents here this morning at about 3:30 a.m.
The United States Geological Services website reports that the quake was about 6.6 miles deep and occurred at 3:20:44 a.m. this morning.
One Alameda resident wrote on Twitter, “I woke up by the rocking of the quake. It was strong.”
There were apparently no injuries in Alameda and no serious damage reported; Alameda public safety officials have not apparently distributed any warnings or alerts via the Nixle reverse 9-1-1 system.
