The Shake It! Booty Band, of San Francisco, and some enthusiastic dancers, closed out the Central Avenue stage late yesterday afternoon to wrap up the third annual Neptune Beach Community Celebration.

Webster Street was closed from Central Avenue to Pacific Avenue to support the event.

A ferris wheel and a giant slide set this street fair apart from others that run throughout the summer in Alameda.

The two-day festival is intended to bring make memories of, and commemorate, Neptune Beach, and amusement park at the western-most end of Webster Street that operated from 1917 to 1939.

It also attempts to bring attention to new businesses along Webster Street – once a local playground for sailors from the former Naval Air Station Alameda – which has long played second fiddle to Park Street as an Alameda shopping destination.

Lt. Jill Ottaviano of the Alameda Police Department told Action Alameda News that, although it was a busy weekend, there were no arrests specific to the Neptune Beach event. There was a call for service at noon, Saturday, she said, reporting a man suspected to be intoxicated, at Santa Clara and Webster Street, but when responding officers arrived, they could not locate him.
