The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche returned to its home port in Alameda on Saturday, after a 14-week deployment in the Pacific, and a political photo-op during an offloading stop in San Diego.

Congressman Duncan Hunter, California’s representative for the 50th Congressional District, which covers East and Northern County San Diego, and Vice Admiral Charles W. Ray, commander of the Coast Guard Pacific Area, visited the cutter in San Diego as it offloaded supplies, before it returned to Alameda.

The Waesche operated off the coast of Southern California and Mexico for the first month of its most recent deployment, supporting counter-drug operations, inderdicting more than 10,000 pounds of illegal drugs and six suspected traffickers.

It then participated in the multi-national Rim of the Pacific Exercises 2014 in the Central Pacific and conducted fisheries laws enforcement operations with specialists from Kiribati and the Cook Islands.

The Waesche delivered boarding teams for inspections of fishing boats within Kiribati’s and the Cook Islands’ exclusive economic zones.

The Waesche is 418 feet long with a top speed of 28 knots and a range of 12,000 nautical miles.
