The City of Alameda Public Works Department is piloting 40 so-called “smart” parking meters on Park and Webster Streets, with a view towards ultimately replacing all 822 city meters with smart meters.

The new meters, which have large digital displays and accept credit cards, went up on Park Street and Webster Street last week, for a three-month trial.

Alameda City Council approved the trial after collecting input from more than 800 stakeholders, including residents and store owners.

The Public Works Department is asking drivers who use the new meters to visit to complete a survey.
