Beginning Friday, October 31st, the Alameda Food Bank will begin accepting donations of frozen turkeys and accompanying fixings, in advance of distribution to needy families from November 24th through to Thanksgiving.
Donors can contribute turkeys or boxed stuffing mix, canned black olives, canned gravy, cake mix, corn bread muffin mix, instant potatoes, canned yams and condensed milk.
The food bank office at 1900 Thau Way, accessible from Eagle Avenue at Constitution Way, is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
Businesses or organizations looking to make a large donation should contact the food bank at 510-523-5850 to arrange a pick-up.
Food bank executive director Troy Gilbert said that near one in fifteen Alameda households receive assistance.
