Alameda County Housing Affordability Nudges Up

Data from the California Association of Realtors shows that housing affordability in Alameda County improved slightly in the third quarter.

The association’s traditional housing affordability index increased from 18 in the second quarter to 19 in the third quarter, a slight nudge in the direction of greater affordability, but down from 21 in the third quarter of last year.

But still, for a home buyer in Alameda County to afford a property at the median price of $710,220, they would need a minimum qualifing income of $144,210 to meet monthly payments including taxes and insurance of $3,610.

Within the Bay area, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties were among the state’s least affordable with an index of 15.
