The Public Works Agency of Alameda County was slated to brief Alameda City Council last night on proposed maintenance to the Park Street and High Street bridges that would see both closed to motorists at different times next year.

According to a draft presentation from the county officials, the High Street bridge, built in 1939 an seismically retrofitted in 2009, would be closed to vehicle traffic for seven weeks for deck and center lock repairs.

Traffic would be detoured to the Fruitvale bridge.

At a different time, deck repair work and vehicle restraint barrier work would be scheduled for the Park Street bridge, built in 1935; that work would take place at night.

Again, traffic would detour to the Fruitvale bridge.

Both bridges would remain fully or partially open for vessel traffic on the estuary through the scheduled work periods.

Work is scheduled to begin early in the new year, and the county plans to mail out additional notices of the closures.
