Roughly 50 people turned out to hear the Hornet’s resident chaplain John Berger commence the service at 11am.
The Hornet’s flags were flown at half-mast to honor the more than 2,000 lives lost in the attack.
The museum, USS Hornet (CV-12) is the successor to the USS Hornet (CV-8), a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier launched in late 1940.
Hornet (CV-8) arrived at Naval Air Station Alameda in March of 1942, and departed early April that same year, loaded with 16 B-25 bombers, to launch an attack on Japan in reprisal for the Pearl Harbor attack.
Were any of our elected officials present ????
None. Although they were out in force at the tree lighting ceremony last night.
