Alameda commuters returning to work after the holidays are facing increased parking fees at local BART stations.

Beginning later this month, daily parking fees will go up by 50 cents at several BART stations.

Starting Tuesday, January 20th, it will cost $3 to park for the day at the San Leandro, Fruitvale and Lake Merritt BART stations.

On January 26th, daily rates at West Oakland will rise to $7.

The daily rate at Coliseum BART will remain unchanged at $1.

Rates go up at a number of other BART stations across the Bay area as well.

BART says it evaluates parking lot capacity every six months, increasing fees for station lots that are full, and decreasing fees for lots that are less than 95 percent full.
