Alameda-based Niman Ranch is increasing its supply of fresh pork to Chipotle Mexican Grill to help fill a carnitas void, after Chipotle suspended a supplier.

The Associated Press reported last week that the un-named supplier was suspended for violating humane housing condition requirements set by Chipotle, and that the restaurant chain had dropped carnitas from its menu; Niman Ranch followed-up with a media statement announcing its efforts.

Niman Ranch bills itself as a supplier of humanely raised pork and beef drawing upon a network of 700 family farmers and ranchers dedicated to humane animal care and sustainability.

“Steve Ells and Chipotle have been a wonderful partner to Niman Ranch and our network of family farmers for many years,” stated Jeff Tripician, executive vice president, Niman Ranch. “Anything we can do to help them we will do.”
