Alameda City Council is expected to extend an agreement to jointly operate swimming pools with the school district. (City of Alameda)
A previous agreement, formalized in 2011, shares operation and maintenance costs for the facilities between the two agencies, with each assuming 50 percent of the costs.
That agreement expires at the end of this month; the proposed extension would continue through December 31, 2016.
The City of Alameda is responsible for all ongoing maintenance including custodial, equipment repair and maintenance, which is managed through City employees and contracts, while the school district is responsible for all major capital repairs and improvements.
City staff estimates that the city’s share of one year of expenses will be $154,000. Funds will come from the Alameda Recreation and Park Department’s swim center program budget.
