Alameda’s Bay Ship & Yacht has been awarded a $3.39 million contract to refurbish SF Bay Ferry’s M.V. Peralta, a 331-passenger, 25-knot catamaran style passenger ferry.

The mid-life refurbishment of the Peralta, familiar to long-time Alameda ferry riders, will provide refurbished main engines, generators, gear boxes, new steering system components, renewed restrooms, new carpets, and passenger seats.

Later this year, SF Bay Ferry expects to issue a Request for Proposals for a Phase 2 refurbishment; the current overhaul is scheduled to be complete by May 1 to ensure the boat is available for the summer season.

The agency expects to award a $32 million contract over the coming months to construct two new 400-passenger boats, which will replace two from the existing 12-vessel fleet that are expected to retire within the next two years.
