Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) Superintendent Sean McPhetridge has released a letter commenting on school safety, pursuant to an incident at Edison Elementary School last week.

Kelandre Rejaun Dunn, 27, was arrested on several charges on Monday, last week, including trespassing, theft, assault, kidnapping and resisting arrest after, apparently under the influence of drugs, walking into Edison school and accosting staff.

According to McPhetridge, “at one point he also shut himself in the teacher’s room with several teachers and staff.”

Upon Dunn’s arrival at the school, the campus went into lockdown, and staffers called Alameda Police.

The incident, McPhetridge wrote, is keeping the theme of of “safety and security” top of mind for district administrators as they plot how to spend, over the coming years, proceeds from bonds issued under Measure I, a tax bond measure passed by voters in November.
