In a special closed session meeting last week, Alameda City Council unanimously voted to appoint Assistant City Manager Elizabeth Warmerdam to the position of Interim City Manager, effective May 4th, the day that current city manager John Russo is to start work as the city manager of Riverside, California.

News broke late last month that Russo had accepted a position with the City of Riverside; the City of Alameda confirmed shortly thereafter, confirming his exit.

After the closed session last week, Alameda Mayor Trish Spencer announced that city council had approved Warmerdam’s appointment, and she had accepted.

Spencer said that a formal agreement would be brought back before City Council.

The appointment occurred too late for that agreement to be presented at tomorrow’s council meeting, but it may be on the March 28th meeting agenda.

Russo appointed Warmerdam his assistant in December, 2012.

Shed had been the deputy city manager for the City of Hercules.
