A regular feature at the USS Hornet Museum, Living Ship Day at the end of this month will include a presentation by former lieutenant commander (LCDR) William Goehner, Jr., who was one of the first Navy SEALs during World War II.

According to the Navy SEALs website, SEAL operations today are rooted in the actions of Naval Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs), Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (UDTs), and other special operations forces dating back to World War II and the Korean War.

Goehner, an Underwater Demolition Team “frogman” participated in some of the boldest missions of World War II, and was portrayed by actor Richard Widmark in the 1951 film, “The Frogmen.”

Living Ship Day runs at the Hornet from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, May 30th; Goehner’s presentation begins at 1pm.

The USS Hornet Museum is located at 707 W Hornet Ave., Pier 3, in Alameda.
