The vandalism took place just before tonight’s traditional “Island Bowl” football contest between Alameda High School and Encinal High School, set to take place at Thompson Field.
on the same field.
Using yellow paint, someone sprayed “AHS” and a crude representation of a penis on the field; locations around the Encinal campus were egged as well.

Susan Davis, spokesperson for the Alameda Unified School District, told Action Alameda News, “My understanding is that someone spray painted and also egged the marquee at Encinal High School. There was some other spray painting at the site, too.”
Encinal High School principal Kirsten Zazo posted a message to parents on the school’s website, writing, “Some of our students may have informed you about the graffiti on the marquee and damage to other areas of our school related to the upcoming Island Bowl that was discovered this morning.
“This is a police matter and is being investigated. But – know this …Nothing will knock us off our game, nothing can get into our heads, and at the end of the day, what others may have done to our campus is irrelevant. We are better than that. The Encinal Community – all of us – students, staff, faculty, families – have no need to retaliate and will not retaliate. We will do our talking on the field.
“Let’s stand together as one and represent ourselves with true Jet Pride. No graffiti. No egg throwing. No damage to AHS. We are Encinal – we will not stoop to that level.”
As of press time, the Alameda Police Department had not yet responded with details in response to a request for any information on an investigation.
