About the Featured Poets
Allegra Jostad Silberstein grew up on a farm in Wisconsin but has lived in California since 1963. Her love of poetry began as a child when her mother would recite poems as she worked. In addition to three chapbooks, her first book, West of Angels, was published by Cold River Press in the spring of 2015. She has been widely published in journals with a growing number on-line. In 2010 she became the first Poet Laureate for the city of Davis. Allegra also performs with the The Third Stage dance company and Front Porch bluegrass group in Davis.
Katy Brown, retired Social Worker, is a poet and photographer whose work appears online in Medusa’s Kitchen Blogspot and Convergence. She has won awards in The Ina Coolbrith Circle, Berkeley Poets’ Dinner, California Federation of Chaparral Poets, and The International Dance Poetry competitions. She was twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize. Her poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Her secret power is that she can catch a lizard with a blade of grass.
