At a special meeting, on Wednesday evening, next week, the Alameda city council will consider an urgency ordinance that mandates a 65-day moratorium on rental increase notices, and landlord initiated lease terminations (just cause eviction).
At the same meeting, city council will receive a report from BAE Urban Economics on the state of the rental market in Alameda.
The ordinance would be in effect for 65 days from its adoption, and could potentially be extended.
Rental units that are otherwise exempt from rent control would be exempt from the moratorium on rent increase notices.
Adoption of the ordinance requires four affirmative votes from council members.
