Later this month, twenty new electronic bicycle lockers will be installed at the Main Street ferry terminal, replacing the existing eight lockers.

The City of Alameda Public Works Department says that the new lockers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, at the cost of five cents per hour; the current lockers are individually assigned

The new lockers will use the BikeLink system, which is commonly found throughout the Bay area and at BART stations.

In Alameda, there are already similar lockers using the BikeLink system at the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal, Civic Center Garage and at Alameda Landing.

To use the lockers, one must purchase a BikeLink card, either online, or through retail stores, such as Alameda Bicycle on Park Street.

The project is funded by the Water Emergency Transportation Authority and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA).

Big deal. How about more parking for cars? How about re-doing the road so it has shoulders to ride on? Very dangerous. There’s a path on one side, but it’s littered with debris that causes flat tires.
