Alameda Police Investigating Shore Line Drive Fatality

Alameda police are investigating a Sunday, May 9th, vehicle-pedestrian that resulted in the pedestrian’s death the next day.

An Alameda County coroner’s office official told Action Alameda News that Philip Byung Chan Lee, 77, died of complications of blunt head trauma.

He was struck by a vehicle while crossing Shore Line Drive near the post office.

Alameda police chief Paul Rolleri told Action Alameda News that driver remained at the scene of the collision and was fully co-operative with investigating officers. No arrests have been made.

Rolleri also confirmed that, consistent with timelines he provided with regards to the Augusta Collins investigation, it can take several weeks, or even two to three months, to complete such an investigation.

Lee’s death comes one year and a couple months after the official opening of the Shore Line Drive cycle track, the climax of a roughly $1 million reconfiguration of the beach front road that reduced automobile travel lanes and introduced buffered bicycle lanes.
