According to the City of Oakland’s website, “The Fruitvale Avenue corridor functions as the spine connecting the MacArthur Freeway (I-580), densely populated neighborhoods and shopping districts, the future AC Transit Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, the Fruitvale BART Station, Nimitz Freeway (I-880), waterfront uses and the City of Alameda to each other. A critical gap in bike and pedestrian facilities exists along Fruitvale Avenue. This gap extends from Alameda Avenue to East 12th Street where bike and pedestrian connections are substandard and need improvement.”
The stated goal of the project is to improve the safety and experience of all modes of travel along Fruitvale Avenue from Alameda Avenue, just north of the estuary, to East 12th Street.
The meeting tonight is at 6:00 p.m. at the Fruitvale-San Antonio Senior Center, 3301 East 12th Street, Suite 201, Oakland.
