Update: shortly before noon, today, June 14th, Alameda police posted to their Facebook page that San Francisco police apprehended the suspect, Richard Joseph Lachaux, 27, of Hayward, on Sunday night on unrelated charges.
Correction: police logs say the suspect approached two people with a handgun at Wells Fargo and demanded money, taking it from one of the victims.
The Alameda Police department is searching for a man they say robbed three local businesses on Sunday with a handgun.
Between 9:20 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, the Walgreens pharmacy and Wells Fargo bank at South Shore Shopping center were robbed, as was Alameda Cellars at Encinal Avenue and Park Street, all by the same suspect.
In each case the suspect was armed with a handgun. According to police logs, he discharged his firearm twice inside of Walgreens, demanded money from one person, took a wallet from another, and then searched the pockets of two victims who were lying face down on the ground.
As he left Alameda Cellars, he negligently discharged the handgun.
Nobody was hurt.
Officers gave chase in a short vehicle pursuit but called it off due to the reckless manner the suspect drove his vehicle, which was stolen.
Police describe the suspect as a man in his 20’s, 5’7″ to 5’10” tall, average to stocky build, with a goatee/mustache, wearing a black beanie with the “Batman” logo and “Batman” written in yellow around it, a white oversized V-neck T-shirt, dark blue shorts, white socks, and black shoes.
The Alameda Police Department posted the pictures that accompany this article to its Facebook page; they are asking anyone who provide information on the suspect to call the violent crime unit at 510-337-8350.
Police say the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous.
