Action Alameda News received a copy of an e-mail sent to the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees by Nicole Goehring of Associated Builders and Contractors, Northern California. The group is opposed to a proposed project labor agreement on the agenda tonight. The e-mail is reproduced below.
President Henneberry, Alameda USD Board of Education and Sup. McPhetridge,
Please find attached our opposition letter to the Project Labor Agreement for Measure I Construction because it creates barriers for local, minority and women-owned construction employers and their employees from participating in building their community because it contains provisions that limit the number of men, women, and veterans in their workforce who are in pursuit of a construction career from the opportunity to work and gain the invaluable on-the-job training experience that provides stability for them, their family and their community.
We strongly and respectfully urge your no vote on the Project Labor Agreement when it comes before you today and ask you as an alternative to work with us to find solutions that will remove barriers and increase opportunities for the entire Alameda community to bid on Measure I projects. Please include this correspondence in your June 14, 2016 meeting minutes.
I will also be forwarding a copy to the Measure I Bond Committee and the Measure I CBOC.
