A formal conveyance ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, July 23rd, at noon, wherein the U.S. Navy will transfer the next parcel of land from the former Naval Air Station Alameda; the parcel includes the Seaplane Lagoon itself, and surrounding areas comprising the so-called Site A redevelopment area.
Mayor Trish Spencer will make remarks, and a light lunch will be served.
The lagoon is expected to become the public open space and retail center of the redeveloped navy base.
Up to 60 people, who must register in advance, can participate in a kayak tour of the lagoon in three groups, throughout the day.
At 10 a.m., a 2.5-mile walk around the lagoon, with stops curated by local experts explaining upcoming plans at three development areas, Waterfront Park, De-Pave Park, and the Seaplane Lagoon Ferry Terminal, kicks-off.
The first conveyance of Alameda Point land took place in 2013.
