The committee, lengthily named, “Alamedans United supporting Vella and Ashcraft for City Council, Bratzler for Treasurer, McMahon for Auditor, Harris and Hettich for School Board 2016 sponsored by public safety & labor organizations” has been filing ad hoc contribution statements with the local city clerk, but filed its organizing documents with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters on August 22nd.
According to that organizing document, the committee is sponsored by Alameda Firefighters Local 689.
Through August, the committee took in $12,000 in four contributions from the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 Political Action Committee (PAC), San Francisco Firefighters PAC, Hayward Firefighters PAC and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 595.
Erstwhile City of Alameda planning board member Mike Hennebery is named as a principal officer for the PAC; he is the spouse of school board member Solana Henneberry.
And the PAC is sponsoring the election of Gray Harris to the school board; Harris is firefighters union local president Jeff DelBono’s partner.
Harris and DelBono, along with Catherine Pauling of the Alameda Renters Coalition, signed a ballot argument in favor of the coalition’s strict rent control measure, also on the ballot this November.
Separately, Eric Strimling of the Alameda Renters Coalition complained about “outside groups coming in to tell us how to run our city – trying to influence initiatives and bankroll our candidates for office” and “deep pocketed outside group trying to influence our politics.”
The “Alamedans United” full organizing form as available online from the Registrar of Voters office is included below.
