The Alameda Police Officers association ripped the mayor over her inquiry into a citizens complaint. (Google Street View)
Kuboyama refers to an exchange between police chief Paul Rolleri and Spencer, as reported in a recent Alameda Magazine article on the mayor.
Kuboyama wrote that the mayor was trying to “exert her power and investigate the matter,” and praised the chief for saying it was premature to discuss the matter.
He closed by describing the mayor’s actions as deplorable.
According to campaign disclosure filings available on the city’s website, the Alameda Police Officers Association political action committee donated just over $1,100 to the 2016 election campaigns for Rob Bonta, Malia Vella and Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft in the first half of this year.
Kuboyama’s letter, obtained through a public records act request, is reproduced below.
Deplorable. That is strong language to describe the City of Alameda’s Mayor’s actions of inquiring into a race relations concern by a citizen. Thank you Honorable Trish Spencer for the inquiry, I hope the dialogue continues. I hope Alan would apologize for his use of the word deplorable. He may not have thought that through clearly–also from my reading of the letter he seems to be really emotionally bothered by the Mayor’s inquiry. I wonder why is this? His use of deplorable in defining her actions just does not fit the dictionary definition that I just read. It actually seems a bit disrespectful, in my opinion. Best blessing on healing for all impacted with negative energy as a result of the scenario which occurred between the officer and the citizens.
