MARAD is hosting an open house and emergency response demo at Pier 50 this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) representatives will be on-hand to speak to the public about its potential role in an emergency.
MARAD’s ship, MV Cape Hudson, will be docked at the pier and open to the public. An AMP crew will board the ship with a bucket truck and a digger derrick truck, both of which AMP would likely use in a large-scale emergency. Earthquake response will be highlighted during this year’s Fleet Week.
The point of the exercise is to demonstrate how multiple government agencies can coordinate to respond to emergencies and assist the public. MARAD, which has a fleet of ships berthed at Alameda Point, is one of AMP’s largest commercial customers.
