International Games Day @ Your Library is an international initiative supported by the American Library Association, the Australian Library and Information Association, and Nordic Game Day.
The intent is to encourage communities across the world to collaborate and play games together in the library. All seven continents, including Antarctica, participated in game day last year.
Here in Alameda, the main library will provide a selection of board games and participants may also bring their own.
Participants can also try out board games from the circulating board game collection, and can check out a board game to take home. Games such as Gloom, Dixit, Sushi Go and others are available.
Friendly competition is encouraged and all skill levels of players are invited to participate. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Game day is Saturday, November 19, from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., at the main library at 1550 Oak Street.
