Alameda Youth Committee Launches “Piece And Kindness” Campaign

The Alameda Youth Committee, working with the Alameda Recreation and Park Department (ARPD), has launched a “Piece and Kindness” campaign to promote kindness and heal divisiveness through the community. The piece/peace play on words appears deliberate.

The campaign entails community members creating art on a blank 4×4 puzzle piece, available from ARPD, and then turning the piece back into the organizers so a final community puzzle may be put together and displayed on Friday, March 17th, at the Veteran’s Memorial Building.

Blank puzzle pieces can be picked up at the Alameda Recreation and Park Department (ARPD) office at 2226 Santa Clara Avenue, or by visiting “The Piece and Kindness Campaign” table at South Shore Center in the plaza near the frog fountain during the following dates/ times:

Tuesday, February 14 from 4pm – 6pm

Friday, February 17 from 4pm – 6pm

Saturday, February 25 from 2pm – 4pm

Large orders for organizations may be fulfilled by contacting the the department with specifics.

Completed puzzle pieces are due back to the department by Friday, March 3rd.

Separately, Alameda Unified School District superintendent Sean McPhetridge released a letter to assure the community that the district is committed to upholding a vision of a diverse student body provided rigorous academics in an inclusive environment.

The school district board of trustees recently passed, unanimously, a “Safe Haven Resolution” which promotes tolerance and opposes hate speech, and urges federal immigration authorities to not conduct immigration enforcement activities at schools.
