Alameda Municipal Power to Report on West-end Undergrounding Project

Next Monday, at 7:00 p.m., the Alameda Public Utilities Board will receive an informational report from Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) staff on the history of efforts in Alameda to move overhead aerial electrical utility wires to underground structures, known as “undergrounding,” and on the status of underground utility district number 31, the current effort to underground aerial utility wires along Webster Street and on intersecting avenues.

Power Outage in Central Alameda Caused by Mylar Balloons

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) issued a press release today explaining that roughly 2,500 customers lost power briefly this morning. Alameda Municipal Power and the City of Alameda announced yesterday that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has dismissed a more than $15 million lawsuit against the City for losses that investors incurred with the demise of the electric utility’s cable TV and Internet access division.

Alameda Municipal Power to Issue RFP for Study of Electricity Rates and Technology Trends

Tonight at the Public Utilities Board meeting, Alameda Municipal Power staff will ask for input from board members on a Request for Proposal (RFP) they want to issue to study emerging trends in electricity rates and electrical utility technologies. The staff report cites “Smart Meters” as a new technology that provides new pricing options for utilities. To date, only PG&E has deployed smart meters in Alameda.

Full Agenda for Alameda City Council Closed Session Tonight

The City of Alameda Public Utilities Board will hold its October meeting on Tuesday, October 26th, at 7:00 p.m. at Alameda Municipal Power’s office at 2000 Grand Street. The P.U.C. oversees Alameda Municipal Power, Alameda’s municipally-owned electric utility.
