California Supreme Court Says State Can Ax Redevelopment Agencies

In a ruling released today, the California Supreme Court has ruled that the State of California can legally abolish local redevelopment agencies. Earlier this year, the State introduced legislation to do just that, to preserve funding for the K-12 schools, and the California Redevelopment Association sued.

State Controller’s Report Faults Redevelopment Agencies for Missed School Payments

An audit of 18 California redevelopment agencies release last week by California State Controller John Chiang found that five of the 18 agencies failed to make $33.6 million in required payments to schools within their redevelopment areas. The missed payments mean that the State of California has to increase the amount it pays out to local school districts.

Then email others, especially people involved in online communities, and urge them to do the same.” It’s originating from an unexpected source – a real estate developer in Capitola, California.

State Legislative Analyst Office Spars With California Redevelopment Association

As Alameda residents get ready to vote on another Alameda Unified School Parcel Tax, Measure A, on the ballot on March 8th, the non-partisan California State Legislative Analyst’s Office is sparing with the California Redevelopment Association over the Office’s interpretation of the impact of Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate redevelopment agencies across the state. The California Redevelopment Association has sued the State of California over budget moves in the past that transferred $2 billion from state redevelopment agencies to K-12 funding.

Jerry Brown Goes After Redevelopment in the Name of Schools

Governor Jerry Brown’s proposal to eliminate some 400+ redevelopment agencies across the state of California comes as the Alameda Unified School District reaches out to voters yet again for a parcel tax.
