The City of Alameda announced late last week that the Office of Economic Adjustment under the Department of Defense has awarded the City of Alameda $225,000 to prepare a detailed economic development strategy for Alameda Point. Also, on October 5th, Alameda City Council, sitting as the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority (ARRA) will vote on a term sheet between the U.S. Navy and the City to transfer Alameda Point to ARRA at no cost.

The United States Department of the Navy has issued a call for public input on a restoration plan for a portion of the former Naval Air Station Alameda, now known as Alameda Point. There is a public meeting this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Naval Air Station Alameda Restoration Advisory Board, a joint Navy and public body overseeing the remediation of the former naval base, now Alameda Point, will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on September 1, in the Community Conference room at City Hall West at 950 West Mall Square. The City of Alameda issued a press release this morning reminding citizens that it’s workshop, “How to Make Alameda Point a Sustainable Community” will take place June 14th at the Albert H. DeWitt O’Club, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Alameda Point infrastructure upgrades are estimated to cost $650 million, excluding public benefits such as a sports complex and public library, according to a City of Alameda presentation delivered to the public via webinar on May 18th. The presentation is included in the meeting packet for next Wednesday’s Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority, which oversees conversion of the former naval base to civilian use. The City of Alameda, through the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority, has moved to evict Nelson’s Marine from Alameda Point for failure to pay rent. Earlier this week, the City of Alamada announced that the City’s proposed site at Alameda Point was one of the finalists for a second campus for the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). Tonight’s Restoration Advisory Board meeting will provide an update on the Seaplane Lagoon cleanup. Alameda Point will be back on the agenda before the City of Alameda Planning Board again next Monday night.
