The Board of Trustees for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) will hold a special board meeting Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Alameda High School Cafeteria. This statement, together with a weak economy and teacher layoffs, has led to renewed interest in the question of class size — and whether larger classes inevitably mean that students learn less than they otherwise would. Late yesterday, Alameda Unified School District Superintendent’s Assistant Kerri Lonergan released a media statement announcing that the school district and the teachers’ union are officially at an impasse. The teachers’ union has called for all-teachers emergency meeting. This morning, Kerri Lonergan, Superintendent’s Assistant at the Alameda Unified School District, released a community bulletin to the media on behalf of AUSD Superintendent Kirsten Vital regarding fiscal year carryover funds. Alameda teachers will be wearing green today, to support their bargaining team as it heads into negotiations with the Alameda Unified School District. Over the previous weeks, teachers have been publicizing an AUSD surplus of $1 million that the district plans to spend on textbooks. The Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) will hold another special meeting tonight at 5:00 p.m. to discuss equity policies and practices. Today, Alameda County Superior court Judge Frank Roesch ruled in favor of the Alameda Unified School District on the lawsuit Nelco, Inc. et al v. Alameda Unified School District, RG11574574, which sought to overturn the parcel tax passed by voters in March of this year.
