The Alameda Unified School District Board of Education is set to vote tonight on a list of books to support a revised anti-bullying program. A local parents group says that approval of four specific books would violate the District’s policy on controversial issues.

On February 18th, 2010, Alameda residents Kerry Cook and Serena Dietrich filed suit in Alameda County Superior Court, claiming that the Alameda Unified School District Board of Trustees violated the state’s open meeting laws in the course of their actions surrounding a new anti-bullying curriculum and the controversial “Lesson 9″ plan at the December 8th, 2009, AUSD Board of Trustees meeting.
