Earlier today, Alameda police commandeered a paddleboat from a residence on the 600 block of Waterview Isle to rescue a 16 year-old car theft suspect who had jumped in the water to escape police. The California Emergency Medical Services Authority has dismissed four complaints against Alameda paramedics pursuant to their involvement in the death of Raymond Zack at an Alameda beach earlier this year. By Erica Madison “I hope we can add some dignity even posthumously, because he was robbed of this dignity,” said documentary film director Jaime Longhi during a telephone interview about an upcoming Raymond Zack film. By Erica Madison “He was kind, gentle and considerate, but never violent. I don’t understand why that was an issue,” Raymond Zack’s foster mother Dolores Berry told Alameda City Council on October 11, 2011. Mrs. Berry and others who knew Zack attended a special City Council meeting investigating how and why Raymond Zach died five months ago on Memorial Day at Robert Crown Beach. Berry and friends gave Alameda City council a glimpse as to who the man was. By Erica Madison “The Grijalva report on the drowning of Raymond Zack is incomplete and full of inaccuracies, lacks scope and understanding of all the forces at play, and takes no corrective measures”, said Adam Gillitt during a press conference at city hall on October 11, 2011. Raymond Zack’s brother and sister have filed a claim against the City of Alameda and the County of Alameda over his death on Memorial Day this year, while public safety officers stood on the beach and watched. Such a claim is typically a precursor to a lawsuit. The City of Alameda has released a report on it’s investigation by Ruben Grijalva into the death of Raymond Zack earlier this year.
